The City of Ely reserves the right to extend this time for a period not to exceed two years.<BR><BR>EXAMINATION INFORMATION<BR><BR>The written part of this exam will be held at the Hermantown Training Center, 5111 Maple Grove Rd., Hermantown, MN 55811 on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Sign in begins at 9:30 a.m.<BR><BR>To participate in this exam, you must bring pictured identification, a #2 pencil and your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER will be used as your identification number on your exam answer sheet.<BR><BR>CLOSING DATE FOR FILING<BR><BR>No applications will be accepted after 3:30 p.m., January 16, 2007, unless postmarked that date. Applications must be on official City of Ely forms and either mailed or brought directly to the City of Ely, Police Department, 209 E. Chapman St., Ely, MN 55731. (RESUMES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.) License or eligibility for licensing MUST accompany employment application. The top 25 applicants will be given an oral interview. Of the oral examination, the top 15 applicants will be given an oral interview. Of that, the top five (5) applicants will undergo a thorough background investigation. The names of the top five (5) applicants who successfully pass the background investigation will be forwarded to the Chief and Ely Police Civil Service Commission. The Chief and the Commission will recommend their choice of any one of the top five applicants to the City Council.<BR><BR>WORK TEST PERIOD<BR><BR>Appointees to the position must successfully complete a minimun six-month probationary work period prior to being certified for permanent employment.<BR><BR>VETERANS PERFERENCE<BR><BR>Proof and claims for Veterans Preference - A DD-214 must be filed with application or prior to written examination date.<BR><BR>APPOINTMENT PROCEDURE<BR><BR>The application process also includes but is not limited to the successful completion or a preliminary criminal history check.<BR><BR>The candidates recommended for appointment shall be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and psychological testing.<BR><BR>THE CITY OF ELY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR EXPENSES INCURRED BY APPLICANTS INTERESTED IN CITY EMPLOYMENT.
