Martin Rodich of Eagan, 66, dies

MARTIN RODICH, of Eagan, 66, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 after a year long struggle with recurring pneumonia and weakened lungs. Marty was born in St. Paul on March 2, 1951 and grew up rifle and bow hunting, fishing, canoeing, and working alongside his dad learning the tricks of most every trade. His favorite was that of electricity. Much of his free time was spent up in Ely, MN with family and friends where he loved the woods.
Marty graduated from Rosemount High School and went on to Normandale Community College where he became an electrician. He worked as an electrician until approximately the age of 30 when he was paralyzed by a car accident. He spent the following 36 years as a quadriplegic living at the Eagan family home. The years to follow were challenging but Marty endured the hardships gracefully and eventually was the caretaker of his parents, Marvin and Emily Rodich. Marty spent time supporting the Spinal Cord Society by volunteering at fundraisers and State Fair events. He loved to tinker with broken things and figure out how to make them work. He was the brains and whoever was available was his hands. He always enjoyed the visits from neighbors, friends and family at the house. We are so grateful for all of the special people in Marty’s life!
Marty is survived by his siblings:, Maureen (Bruce) Johnson, Connie (Ed) Newberg, Larry, Richard, and Virginia (Marty) Stage; six nieces and nephews: Brandon (Rachel) Newberg, Taylor and Dustin Newberg, Elise (Taner) Stage and Loreena Stage, and Nick Przybilla.
Marty was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marvin and Emily Rodich.
