Ann Mobilia, 101 of Ely, dies

Burial will be held on Saturday, January 27

Ann J. Mobilia, 101, of Ely passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 22, 2018 at St. Michael Rehab Center in Virginia, MN. She was born on November 26, 1916 in Ely to Jacob (Jack) and Rose (Scufsa) Chepelnik.
Ann was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School and after graduation was employed by Dr. J. Call as a dental assistant. Ann married Anthony (Tony) Mobilia on June 20, 1942 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely.
She took pride in being a homemaker and being there for her three daughters and husband. She was a wonderful cook and took pride in cooking and baking her family’s favorite ethnic foods, such as apple strudel and walnut potica.
Ann was an active member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Ely. Other organizations she belonged to were the CFU, KSKJ, VFW, the Ladies Auxiliary, and in her early years was an active member of the Ely Drill Team. Ann had many hobbies including crocheting, sewing and canning those wonderful vegetables our Dad grew.
She was an accomplished saleswoman with Amway, Tupperware, Foundation Garments, WSA Fraternal Life Insurance and ran her husband Tony’s fire extinguisher business.
She served for 45 years as a dedicated Secretary of WSA Forest Lodge #67. She served on their Board of Directors for 28 years retiring in 1996. She remained as an Honorary Board Member until her death.
Survivors include her three daughters Patricia (Richard) Nystrom of Aurora, CO; Marcia (Bruce) Kauppi of Virginia, MN; Rosemarie (David) Vejtasa of Ely, MN; grandchildren Jeffrey (Jenni) Nystrom, James (Dagmara) Nystrom, Kendra Kauppi, Paul (Sheila) Kauppi, and Mark (Liz) Kauppi; great grandchildren Virginia Nystrom, Jack Nystrom, Kamryn Nystrom, Marzena Nystrom, Wesley Kauppi, Wyatt Kauppi and Jack Kauppi; nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tony; an infant son James Anthony; sisters Rose Krall and Christine Tomsich; brothers Jack Chepelnik and Albert Chepelnik; sons-in-law Bruce Kauppi and Dave Vejtasa; and niece Carol Tegantvoort.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Viewing and Rosary is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Mass is at 11:00 a.m.
A spring burial will be scheduled. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
