Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital makes conversion to new medical records system

On Oct. 1 Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital (EBCH) will “go live” with a new electronic medical records system, EPIC.
This is the current system used by many healthcare facilities statewide including; Fairview, Allina and campus partners, Essentia Health.
By making this transition EBCH will be able to offer better quality, safety and patient satisfaction in regard to medical records. Patients will no longer need to wait for or carry paper copies.
Patients will need to plan some additional time for registration during their first appointment following the October 1 “go live” date.
Patients will need to bring their ID and insurance card to their next appointment as the hospital will need to reenter personal and insurance information upon arrival.
After the first visit with the new record system, checking in will be streamlines.
As part of the EPIC conversion EBCH will offer patients access to their medical records, lab results and appointment information through MyHealth rather than the previously used “Patient Portage.”
Those enrolled in the Patient Portage will still be able to access information until December 31, 2017.
MyHealth users already enrolled through another healthcare facility should be able to merge their accounts so medical records from multiple facilities can be accessed in one convenient location.
Medical records for EBCH will be visible for appointments being Oct. 1.
“If you need past medical records you can request them by calling our Health Information Management Office 218-365-8753,” said hospital spokesperson Jodi Nicholson. “We ask for our patients to be understanding as staff make the transition to this new system.”
