Kids snowmobile oval racing returns to Fall Lake on January 6

The Ely area will host youth snowmobile oval ice racing for the fourth year.
This time the races return to Fall Lake, in front of the Longbranch in Winton.
The KCPRO East ice racing circuit tried Shagawa last year but will return to Fall Lake for 2018.
The awards banquet following the race will be held at the Grand Ely Lodge.
Races are for kids ages four to 14 and there is a demo machine for youth who would like to try it out.
The event is free for spectators with 11 different classes of races starting at 10 a.m.
This year there will again be at least one Ely connection with Brant Gruba, age 9, who’s in his fifth year of racing.
Brant is the son of Adam and Shawntel Gruba and the grandson of Rod and Sheila Gruba of Ely.
“So far the temps for that day predict 15 degrees above zero. It’s been so cold last few years,” said Shawntel Gruba. “We are predicting a big turn out with members from Canada and KCPRO West joining us.
Adam Gruba is the president of the KCPRO East year.
“We are always looking for new members and members can join any time. They just need to be ages 4-14,” said Adam Gruba. “You can find info on our website and Facebook or call me at 218.349.3832.”
The event is part of a circuit of races that this season will be held in Ely, Duluth, Chisholm, Virginia, Cloquet, Britt and Rice Lake, WI.
“It’s family fun for everyone. The racers and siblings even get treat bags after each race,” said Shawntel Gruba.
There is no charge to watch the racing which will be held in the bay front of the Longbranch.
Registrations begin at 8 a.m. with hot laps at 9 a.m. and racing action set to begin at 10 a.m.
KCPRO East is a non- profit organization established in 1991. For more information check out kcproeast.com.
