…2023 edition of Ely’s Greenstone Arts Summer Children’s Art Camp at The Miners Dry is complete

Kids present their art to their parents after days of hard work and creativity.

Dear Editor,

Begun at Whiteside Park in 2001, the 2023 edition of Ely’s Greenstone Arts Summer Children’s Art Camp at The Miners Dry is complete.

Art Camp is a new addition to Northern Lakes Arts Association summer youth offerings and also provides easy on-line registration.

More than 50 students in grades one through six enjoyed making kites, stepping stones, jewelry, clay objects, watercolor drawings and cards and tie-dye T- shirts for three mornings this past week.

Each project gave them hands-on experiences with artists in different mediums.

Art Camp would not have been possible each year without energetic volunteer assistants.

In 2023 we were grateful for Val Beale, Tara Boerst, Heide Buettner, Bill Defenbaugh, Marge Forsberg, Kathy Golbuff, Laurie Kess,

Scott King, Bekah Lunn, Ward Nelson, Cindy Otto, Sandy Pawlak, Mary Ann  Pinckney, Trudy Staubitz, and Barbara Wilson.

We also wish to thank some community groups and businesses, KJ’s True Value Hardware, for delivery and pick-up of the cement mixer; Zup’s for supplying snacks; The Ely Arts & Heritage Center for use of Ely’s Historic Miner’s Dry - the perfect venue for Art Camp; and to Cam Weisert for set-up assistance.

We continue to appreciate the excellent coverage of our local newspapers and Washington Elementary School and the Ely Public Library for distributing applications.

And we must thank the artist/teachers who shared their skill and experience with campers this year - Pat Bieber, Sandy Brandley, Betty Firth, Judy Fredrickson, Scott King, Lee Nelson and Claire Taylor.
