Arthur Enrico Tome

Ely Echo - Staff Photo -

Arthur Enrico Tome’ passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 10, 2023 - six weeks before his 92nd birthday. Art was a lifelong resident of Ely, MN before moving to Duluth in 2018 to be closer to family and to receive Benedictine Living Community assistance and care. Following High School, Art enlisted in the United States Air Force working as a Staff Sergeant and Supervisory Mechanic in Fairford, England. After Art left the military, he was a hard-working and loyal servant at Reserve Mining Company as a Policeman/Security Officer for nearly 30 years, until Reserve Mining ceased operations at their Babbitt mine. Life after Reserve Mining found Art studying for his real estate license and working briefly for United Farm Real Estate. He then applied for and was awarded the honorable position of Deputy Registrar for the Ely License Bureau, where Art and his wife Jeanne worked until their retirement.

Art’s kids will tell you he was a knowledgeable mechanic and could usually diagnose what was wrong with a car just by telling him what kinds of noises your car was making. Before there was Google and YouTube, there was Art!

Art Tome’ is preceded in death by his parents Enrico and Emma, his brother Louis (G.G.), sisters Ricky, and Mary, and one grandchild Raymond.

He is survived by his wife Jeanne and their children Camille (Kevin), Arthur, and Adam (Bob). Art is also survived by grandchildren Monica, Brendan, and Sean, and great grandchildren, Benjamin, and Kennedi.

The family kindly requests no sympathy cards or telephone calls of condolence to Jeanne due to dementia. This to avoid her re-grieving the trauma of learning of her husband’s death with each sympathy condolence offered.  Welcomed, however, would be cards or phone calls of general caring, or a donation to your charity of choice.
