Rose (Shega) MacMasters, 96, dies

Rose MacMasters, 96, a longtime resident of Franklin, MN died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia.
Rose was born in Ely, MN on August 13, 1917 to John and Johanna (Drobnich) Shega. After attending school here, she worked cleaning houses. She then worked at The Chocolate Shop in Ely, where she met her future husband, Marvin, who was working in northern Minnesota for the U.S. Forest Service as a Radio Operator. They were married on July 7, 1938 at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. In 1941 they moved to Bismarck, ND where Marvin worked at the Fort Lincoln Internment Camp as a Radio Dispatcher. In 1942 they moved to Dayton and later Fairborn, Ohio where he worked as an Electronics Engineer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. While Marvin was the breadwinner, Rose kept house and took care of their children. In 1972 they left their home in Fairborn and retired to Marvin’s home town, Franklin, MN.
Rose was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She also belonged to the CCW, Civic Club and Senior Citizen’s Club. She was a talented seamstress and spent a lot of time in front of her sewing machine, making clothing for herself and her family, mending, sewing quilts and crafting. She enjoyed getting together to play cards with friends and family and was always up for a competitive game of Chinese Checkers or Scrabble with her children and grandchildren. Rose also enjoyed league bowling, first in Fairborn, and then in Redwood Falls and continued to bowl well into her 80s. Reluctantly leaving her home of 38 years in Franklin, Rose moved into an apartment at Prairie View of Hector, in June 2010. A fall in April 2014 necessitated a move to the Golden Living Center in Olivia, where she resided until her death on August 12.
