Ruby M. Tomlinson, 86, of Ely, dies

Ruby Margareta (Pearson) Tomlinson, 86, was born in Chicago, IL on October 25, 1927 and passed away at the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely on September 4, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents Folke and Elsie Pearson.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Walter; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Jeanne, Don and Margie, Scott and Jackie, Gordon and Sue; grandchildren, Ben (Erin), Laura (Wilhelm) Harm, Amy, Kent, Erik, Kyle, Christine, Julie; and five great-grandchildren.
Ruby was very proud of her Swedish heritage as the only daughter of Swedish immigrants. She was very involved in Scouting for many years, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother for each of her four sons, all of whom continued into Boy Scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle. She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader for a number of years even though she did not have any daughters. She was gifted in music, playing the piano at various functions when asked, giving piano lessons from her home for many years, and singing in church and community choirs throughout her adult life. She and her husband, Walter, moved from Chicago to Ely for retirement in 1990. She immediately became an active member of the Ely Women’s Golf League, later serving as president. She was also an active member of the Ely United Methodist Church and the Music & Drama Club. Ruby was always a gracious lady to all who knew her. We will greatly miss her smile and loving attitude and positive outlook on life.
A memorial service to celebrate Ruby’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at the Ely United Methodist Church.
Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
