Harold Wallace “Wally” Warren, 85, of Embarrass, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at home with his wife of 57 years, Bunny, and his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Range Funeral Home at 12 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Jeff Iisakka will officiate. Burial will take place at Embarrass Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by VFW Post 1539 and American Legion Post 535.
Wally was born on November 26, 1929, in Minersville, WI, the second of ten children. After school, he joined the Merchant Marines. When he would come home from working on the boats, he always had surprises for all his family. Wally served in the Army from October 1952 and was honorably discharged in October 1954. He then moved on to the Iron Range, securing a job at Reserve Mining Company in 1955.
Wally and his brother, Jack, set up their bachelor pad in a tiny trailer located behind the dry cleaners in Ely, Minnesota. Wally met his future bride, Helen “Bunny” Caya at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church Valentine’s party in Iron River, Michigan on February 14, 1957. It was love at first sight, and they were married just two short months later on April 4, 1957, in Minneapolis. They made their first home in that same tiny trailer behind the dry cleaners in Ely and eventually moved to Benville. (Brother Jack was left to his own resources).
Wally and Bunny had five daughters while living in Benville, Penny Warren of Embarrass; Ruth Warren of Embarrass; Beth (Scott) Daniels of Alpine Village, CA; Patricia (Alden) Rhode, of Hoyt Lakes; and Helen (Kerry) Kangas of Embarrass. They had lost hope of having sons until they moved to the farm in Embarrass where they were blessed with their three sons, Wallace Warren of Embarrass; John “Jack” (Deborah) Warren of Holiday, FL; and Larry (Sherri) Warren of Hibbing.
Wally is survived by his wife, Bunny; his immediate family (above); six siblings: Shirley (Le-Roy) Schiestl of Minneapolis; Joyce (Kenneth) Luttinen of Abbotsford; Lois (Peter) O’Dovero of Marquette; Mary (Kenneth) Kivi of Minneapolis; Robert “Bub” (Terri) Warren of Highbridge; and Susan (James) Wiener also of Highbridge; sister-in-law Jean “Jeano” Warren and brother-in-law Gordon “Gordy” Kivi; 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Warren; brother, John “Jack Warren; sisters: JoAnn Kivi and Eleanor “Ellie” LeDell; brother-in-law, Dean LeDell; granddaughter, Jennifer “Jenny” Kangas; and grandson, Jonathan “JJ” Bielejeski.
