Recall of the past sawmill era

Up until 1922 there were two large sawmills in Winton, with loggers providing timbers to shore up the underground levels in Ely iron ore mines and also providing millions of feet of board lumber for the building boom across America.
In the Ely area, that industry is still remembered by way of sawdust piles at special events for children to dig in for coins.
