The City of Ely Planning Commission will hold a public hearing

The City of Ely Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday December 5th, 2018 at 5:45 pm in the 2nd Floor Board Room of City Hall to gather public input in consideration of a request made by City of Ely for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for activities proposed at the Community Center Building 30 South First Avenue East Ely MN. Parcel #030-0010-02620.

The City of Ely currently owns the Community Center and the property is in a Residential Transition (RT) Zone. Per the City of Ely Code Sec. 11.40.1 the RT Zone is to provide an area of transition between residential and commercial uses. The RT Zone permits residentially-compatible commercial uses with residential uses. The RT Zone is intended to allow for orderly and efficient use of a property so as to encourage the upkeep and maintenance of such property.

The CUP as requested, if granted, will allow a future owner to conduct a destination-based cultural camp with activities including but not limited to private and public educational programming, overnight accommodations in a dormitory setting, food service, and entertainment for participants as outlined in the K America Foundation Business Plan and purchase offer.

The CUP, if granted, will set conditions of operations on any owner’s use of this property, including parking, and will limit operations to low impact services and will ensure that those operations are residentially-compatible with the neighborhood and City as a whole.

All activities must also comply with applicable State Health Department and Building Permits.

Interested parties may submit comments to Planning and Zoning Administrator, 209 E Chapman St, Ely, MN, 55731, 226-5475, pzadmin@ely.mn.us, or in person at the public hearing.
