Alumni basketball games on for tonight

It’s a turn back the clock sort of night at Ely’s high school gymnasium.
After the current Timberwolves teams wrap up their weekend with games in a pair of home holiday tournaments, the home court will belong to more than 30 former Ely basketball players.
The occasion are a pair of alumni games, set for Saturday evening.
The girls game tips off at approximately 5:30 p.m. while former Ely boys basketball players will follow at 7 p.m.
As of Wednesday, 14 Ely girls basketball alumni and 16 boys had signed up to participate, and there’s still time to register up to the day of the event. There is no age limit.
Sisters Missy (LaTourell) Mackenzie and Mindy LaTourell, who led Ely to a district title in 1993 are the oldest Ely girls alumni set to participate. One of their teammates, 1996 alumni Jen (Klobuchar) Zgonc is also signed up.
Others slated to participate in the girls game are Susan Cook, Megan McDonald, Morgan Moravitz, Alison Zaverl, Kalley Fischer, Shayla Zaverl, Jill Manning, Ashley Bastable, Taylor Soghigian, Adrianna Wittrup and Erin Muhvich.
Bob LaTourell, 1988 Ely graduate and part of a District 27 champion Wolves team is the oldest Ely boys alumni and he’ll be joined on the court by Reed Petersen, the 6-8 center who led Ely to a section title and state tournament appearance in 2001.
The rest of the Ely boys alumni are Adam McDonald, Evan Omerza, Carter Gaulke, Elliot Omerza, Spencer Gaulke, Zach Dean, Braxton Casey, Michael Lah, Blaise Lah, Nick Furnstahl, Max Gantt, Izaak Nosbisch, Nick Jordan and Sean Jordan.
Teams will be split in two to create competitive matchups in both the boys and girls contests.

There is no admission charges, but a free will offering will be collected, with all proceeds donated toward the Ely Hoop Club basketball scholarships.
