1.0 The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Marsnik.
2.0 On roll call the following directors were present via teleconference: Colarich, Mann, Marsnik, Omerza, Pointer, Sjoberg. Also present via teleconference: Erik Erie, Superintendent; Tom Coombe, Ely Echo; Keith Vandervort, Timberjay; Megan Anderson, Anne Oelke, Tim Leeson.
3.0 Pledge of Allegiance
4.0 Approval of Agenda:
4.1 Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Colarich, to approve the agenda as
presented. YES: Colarich, Mann, Marsnik, Omerza, Pointer, Sjoberg.

5.0 Open Forum: Meeting closed to the public due to COVID-19 pandemic.
6.0 Correspondence/informational items:
6.1 Notice of Intent to Negotiate from the Ely Principal’s Association.

7.0 Consent Agenda:
7.1 Moved by Mann, seconded by Pointer, to approve the following Program Consent Agenda:
7.1.1 Approved the minutes of the regular meeting of April 6, 2020.
7.1.2 Approved the minutes of the study session of April 27, 2020.
7.1.3 Approved the minutes of the special meeting of April 27, 2020.
7.1.4 Approved the April 2020 disbursements and wire transfers in the amount of $324,762.92 and receipts in the amount of $763,176.28.
7.1.5 Approved April 2020 financial reports as presented: Total monthly receipts: $1,012,999.35; total monthly payroll: $273,087.11; total fringe benefits: $215,148.28; invoices: $215,480.32; total monthly expenditures: $703,715.71; monthly revenue over expenditures: $309,283.64.
7.1.6 Approved the following donations and gifts: 1. $699.00 from the Ely Winter Festival to be used for the Ely Choral Program; 2. $24.26 from Crystal Fink to be used for general supplies; 3. $24.26 from 3M – Crystal Fink – matching gift to be used for general supplies; 4. $60.00 from Ashley Bastable to be used for the Washington Elementary music/arts programs; 5. $24.26 from Crystal Fink to be used for general supplies; 6. $24.26 from 3M – Crystal Fink – matching gift to be used for general supplies

7.2 Moved by Pointer, seconded by Sjoberg, to approve the Personnel Consent Agenda:
7.2.1 Accepted the retirement of John Lahtonen from the bus driver position effective May 28, 2020.

7.3 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Sjoberg to approve the Policy Consent Agenda:
7.3.1 Third reading and adoption of revised MSBA Policy 102 Equal Educational Opportunity.
7.3.2 Third reading and adoption of revised MSBA Policy 103 Complaints – Students, Employees, Parents, Other Persons.

9.1 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Mann, to adopt a resolution entitled “Resolution Calling A Special Election on August 11 regarding the Issuance of General Obligation School Building Bonds of Independent School District No. 696 (Ely), Minnesota.” YES: Colarich, Mann, Marsnik, Omerza, Pointer, Sjoberg. NO: None. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)

10.4.1 Distance Learning is going well overall. We continue to adjust to meet our students’ individual needs.
10.4.2 The 2020-2021 Master Schedule is almost complete. Some hiring decisions will affect the final schedule. It will be approved this summer.
10.4.3 Awards Day will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m. via Facebook.
10.4.4 Seniors will pick up their cap and gown on Tuesday, May 12.
10.4.5 Graduations plans are tentatively set as one of three option including: Plan A – Virtual graduation, to be posted online; Plan B – Graduation as a “Drive Up” ceremony with seniors and parents staying in their car; Plan C – Graduation in the baseball stadium virtual graduation, to be posted online.
10.5 Superintendent – Erik Erie
10.5.1 Coronavirus and Distance Learning – received graduation guidance document from MDE and waiting for guidance from MDE on summer programming.
10.5.2 Revised Budget from 2019-2020 to be presented on May 26.
10.5.3 Budget for 2020-2021 to be presented on June 8.

11.1 Director Omerza – Asked Superintendent Erie if he was considering having meetings in person instead of teleconference.
