Joe Domich

Harold Joseph ‘Joe’ Domich Jr. died on January 7, 2022, from Myeloma Cancer. He died at his daughter’s home in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
Joe was born on August 12, 1943, in Washington D.C. He was the son of Harold and Alta (Patterson) Domich. Joe grew up on the east coast where his parents worked at Gallaudet College, but he spent his summers at the family cabin on Burntside Lake, canoeing, fishing, and swimming with his cousin and life-long friend, Jerry Helbacka.
Joe graduated from the University of Maryland in 1969 with a degree in Information Management.
Over his life, Joe had multiple careers. He worked as an editor and technology manager for the Association and Education of the Deaf. He sold real estate in Florida for Century 21, worked for Bell South as a telephone repair man, and was a contributor to the Ely Echo and Babbitt Weekly News.
In 2006 Joe retired to his family cabin in Ely, Minnesota where he was an avid bicyclist, canoer, and kayaker. He loved the outdoors and was always ready for an adventure on the local lakes and trails. When his balance affected his ability to bike, he transitioned to the three-wheel recumbent bike.
Joe was a Jeopardy Junkie and had an amazing ability to remember detail – rivers in South American, movie trivia and world history. He knew it all.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Edith (Dee Dee) Domich Metz and her daughter Faith. He is also survived by granddaughter Natalie Cook, his sister Jackie (Ted) Hontz, special cousins Jerry (Michelle) Helbacka, Celia Domich and other cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Elizabeth Domich Cook.
Joe was a kind man, with a generous good heart. He will be missed.
