Raymond Anton Pechek

Age 90 of Buffalo, MN passed away peacefully on 2/16/22. He was a dear sweet man with a wonderful sense of humor until the very end. He was born on 1/6/1932 to Anthony (Tony) & Frances (Fannie) Pechek in Ely, MN. In recent months he was a resident at Havenwood Memory Care facility, in Buffalo, MN.
Ray grew up in Ely where he played basketball in high school and got the nickname Ribsy. During the summers he was a fishing guide for Rom outfitters. He graduated from Ely Memorial High School in 1949. He earned his Associate of Arts degree at Vermilion Community College in Ely, in 1951 and a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Cloud University in 1953 where he met the love of his life Sharron Bahneman.
Ray enlisted in the Army in 1954 and was stationed for 2 years in Alaska, during the Korean War where he was a Supply Sergeant & Radio Operator. When he returned from the Army in 1956 he accepted a job with Reserve Mining Company in Babbitt, MN.
Ray married Sharron Bahneman in 1957 and they resided in Babbitt, MN for 6 years where they had two daughters, Renelle & Terri. Ray was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Finance committee for the Babbitt Golf Association which helped build the Babbitt golf course.
In 1963 Ray and his family moved to Silver Bay, MN where he was Superintendent of Personnel Relations for Reserve Mining Co. He was Chairman on the Board of Trustees for the United Protestant Church, on the board of Christian Education, and coached youth basketball. While living in Silver Bay Ray and his family loved to camp, snowmobile, downhill ski, cross country ski and golf with their many friends and neighbors.
After his retirement in 1986 Ray and Sharron moved to Arizona where he worked at Hillcrest Country Club in Sun City, AZ. While there, he enjoyed the warm weather and time on the golf course.
In 2002 they moved to Buffalo MN, where he volunteered at the Buffalo Covenant Church and the Buffalo Community Orchestra. He also worked part-time as a ranger on The Wild Marsh Golf Course where he got a Hole-In-One.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony & Frances Pechek, sister’s Marjorie, Audrey and Frances (Francy). He is survived by his wife Sharron, daughters Renelle (William) Kunau of Maple Grove, Terri (Gary) DeVeau of Maple Grove, grandchildren, Alyssa (Jacob) Puffer Kunau, Alex (Melissa) Kunau, Daniel (Krista) DeVeau, & Spencer DeVeau, his brother Daniel (Marie) Pechek, great grandchildren as well as several nieces & nephews.
Our family is deeply grateful to the amazing staff at Havenwood and Allina Hospice for their loving care and support.
A celebration of life will take place on Monday, March 14th, 2022 at Buffalo Covenant Church, 1601 MN-25, Buffalo, MN; visitation at 3pm, service at 4pm with reception to follow.
