Forest Service and partners to host prescribed fire educational open house at VCC on March 26

On Saturday, March 26, the Superior National Forest and Dovetail Partners are inviting the public to attend a prescribed fire open house at Vermilion Community College.
Presentations will be held in classroom 104 (CL104).
At the open house, fire professionals from the Forest Service will discuss what prescribed fire is, how the Forest Service plans for it, weather and smoke management, communication strategies, the tools and techniques used in prescribed fire operations, and more.
The open house starts at 8:45 a.m. with presentations ending at noon.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.

8:45 a.m.- 9 a.m. Welcome. Introduction of prescribed fire. Why we burn.
9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The process of prescribed fire-parameters and challenges.
10:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Getting operational – Boots on the ground show and tell.
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. USFS 2022 Prescribed burn presentation and projects, along with forest health benefits and wildland fire resiliency.
Noon-12:30 p.m. Questions and answers.
This open house is part of a broader suite of events focused on fire in northern Minnesota happening from March 11-April 21.
Events also will occur at various locations and include chainsaw safety and pile burning, an overview of the Pagami Creek Fire, beneficial effects from wildfire, and more.
