School Board Meeting Minutes May 23, 2022

1.0 The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Marsnik.
2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Colarich, Coombe, Davis, Marsnik, Omerza, Sjoberg. Also in attendance: John Klarich, Interim Superintendent; Anne Oelke; Megan Anderson; Tim Leeson; Tom Coombe, Ely Echo; Keith Vandervort, Timberjay.

4.0 Approval of Agenda:
4.1 Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Colarich, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)

7.0 Consent Agenda:
7.a Moved by Colarich, seconded by Omerza, to approve the following Program Consent Agenda:
7.a.1 Approved to reimburse the Ely Track Club for participation fees in the amount of $1,336.25.
Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)
7.b Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Colarich, to approve the Personnel Consent Agenda:
7.b.1 Approved Memorial Schedule adjustment to add 0.6 FTE Grade 6-8 Math and 0.4 FTE Grade 6 Social Studies to meet student needs.
7.b.2 Hired Megan Anderson (MA+17 Step 11, $74,539) for the Grade 6 Teaching position with middle school endorsement in Math effective the 2022-2023 school year, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and Ely Education Association.
7.b.3 Accepted the resignation of Megan Anderson from her 6-12 Memorial Principal position effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year and post for the position.
7.b.4 Accepted the retirement of Martina Jarecki from her 3rd Grade Teacher position effective October 20, 2022.
7.b.5 Accepted the resignation of Tammie Elliott from her position as Paraprofessional (6.5 hours/day) effective June 1, 2022.
7.b.6 Accepted the resignation of Aaron Kaercher from his position as Paraprofessional (6.5 hours/day) effective June 1, 2022.
7.b.7 Accepted the resignation of Laurel Kaercher from her position as Paraprofessional (6.5 hours/day) effective June 1, 2022.
7.b.8 Hired Monica Freeman for the Summer Skills Paraprofessional position (4.5 hours/day) for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local 295.
7.b.9 Hired Tracy Johnson for the Summer Skills Paraprofessional position (4.5 hours/day) for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local 295.
7.c Moved by Omerza, seconded by Coombe, to approve the Policy Consent Agenda:
7.c.1 Third review and adoption of revised Policy 452 Personnel Recruitment, Selection and Hiring.
8.0 Old Business:
8.a Interim Superintendent Klarich gave the board an update on change orders.
8.a.1 21st Century Facilities Project update presentation was given by Todd Erickson from Kraus-Anderson.
8.b Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Davis, to approve implementing a new 3-year-old preschool program for the 2022-2023 school year. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)
8.c Moved by Colarich, seconded by Coombe, to approve installation of already purchased Washington Elementary classroom doors in the amount of $121,420.00. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)
9.0 New Business:
9.a Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Coombe that the school dance team becomes a certified competition team in the amount of $320 under the guidance of the Minnesota State High School League. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)
