1.0 The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Marsnik.
2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Colarich, Coombe, Davis, Marsnik, Omerza, Sjoberg. Also in attendance: John Klarich, Interim Superintendent; Anne Oelke; Megan Anderson; Tim Leeson; Tom Coombe, Ely Echo; Keith Vandervort, Timberjay.

4.1 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Davis, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)

7.b.1 Hired Mary Fleetwood for the School Age Extended School Year Program Teacher position for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and the Ely Education Association.
7.b.2 Hired Jacki Tolbert for the School Age Extended School Year Program Paraprofessional position (5 hours/day) for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local No. 295.
7.b.3 Hired Dena Carey for the School Age Extended School Year Program Paraprofessional position (4.5 hours/day) for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local No. 295.
7.b.4 Hired Lea Rae Richards for the School Age Extended School Year Program Paraprofessional position (4.5 hours/day) for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local No. 295.
7.b.5 Hired Megan Wognum for the Summer Skills Teacher position for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and the Ely Education Association.
7.b.6 Hired Andrea Thomas for the Summer Skills Teacher position for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and the Ely Education Association.
7.b.7 Hired Stacy Hegfors for the Summer Skills Paraprofessional position (4.5 hours/day) for June, July, August 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local No. 295.
7.b.8 Extended Heidi Omerza for the 1.0 FTE Long-Term 3rd Grade Teacher position until June 3, 2022, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and the Ely Education Association.
7.b.9 Accepted the resignation of Kelly Noble as Assistant Volleyball Coach effective immediately.

9.a 21st Century Facilities Project update was given by Interim Superintendent John Klarich.

9.a Discussed implementing a new 3-year-old preschool program for the 2022-2023 school year.
9.b Moved by Colarich, seconded by Omerza, to approve the modification of the 2021-2022 school calendar making June 1 the last day of school for students due to the construction project. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)
9.c Moved by Davis, seconded by Sjoberg, to approve Resolution Accepting Donations: 1.) $24.26 from Crystal Fink to be used for high school supplies; 2.) $24.26 from 3M Matching Gift – Crystal Fink to be used for high school supplies. Motion carried. (Vote: 6-0)
10.0 Reports:
10.a Athletic Director – Tom Coombe
10.a.1 Winter sports summary will be at the next meeting
10.a.2 Spring sports are making up for lost time due to the weather
10.b Director of Facilities Report – Tim Leeson
10.b.1 Staff has started to clean out HVAC equipment rooms to make room for new units to be installed, and will also start clearing rooms to make new locker room areas ready for construction.
10.b.2 Some equipment is starting to be placed into new shop areas.
10.b.3 Spring sports and field trips are finally starting up.
10.b.4 Our three student summer helpers will be returning again this summer.
10.c K-5 Principal – Anne Oelke
10.c.1 K-5 enrollment as of May 2 was 233.
10.c.2 3-year-old preschool program for 2022-2023 school year.
10.c.3 9-week summer skills program including PreK-Grade 5 about 60 students.
10.c.4 MCA testing began April 25 and May 12.
10.c.5 Kindergarten registration is May 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
10.c.6 Planning for Professional Development for the 2022-2023 school year.
10.c.7 Upcoming dates
10.d 6-12 Principal – Megan Anderson
10.d.1 6-12 pupil count on May 4 was 279.
10.d.2 Math Curriculum for grades 8-12 is being updated for the 2022-2023 school year
10.d.3 New Middle School Science Curriculum will be taught this fall. Amplify Science will now be taught for K-8.
10.d.4 Senior Awards Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11.
10.d.5 Graduation will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field, followed by a graduate processional and the All-Night Graduation Party.
10.d.6 I had the opportunity to join 42 educators from across the United States on an Educational Tour of West Point. I visited with Ely Graduate Ethan Bremner, toured their campus and learned about the admission process.
10.d.7 Upcoming dates
10.e Superintendent – John Klarich
10.e.1 Met with City Clerk/Treasurer Harold Langowski, Police Chief Chad Houde, Fire Chief Dave Marshall and Administration to discuss upcoming parking for the next school year.
