The regular meeting of the Ely City Council was called to order by Mayor Skraba at 5:30pm in the Council Chambers.

ABSENT: None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Debeltz/Campbell moved to approve the minutes from the December 21, 2021 Regular Council Meeting. Motion Carried Unanimously.

The Ely City Council will hold the February 1, 2022 Council Meeting from 5:00pm – 6:00pm in the Council Chambers at Ely City Hall since the Caucuses are that evening and per state statue government meetings cannot be held after 6pm.

1.0 The study session of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room by Chairman Marsnik at 6:00 p.m.
2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Colarich, Coombe, Marsnik, Omerza, Visser. Absent: Sjoberg. Also present: Megan Anderson; Tom Coombe, Ely Echo; Keith Vandervort, Timberjay.
3.0 21st Century Learning Facility Project update was given by Superintendent Erie.
4.0 There was an update and discussion on the Ely Public Schools 2021-2022 Safe Learning Reopening Plan revisions.
5.00 Moved by Visser, seconded by Colarich, to adjourn at 6:53 p.m. Motion carried. (Vote: 5-0)

1.0 The study session of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room by Chairman Marsnik at 8:06 p.m.
2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Colarich, Coombe, Marsnik, Omerza, Visser. Absent: Sjoberg. Also present: Tom Coombe, Ely Echo; Anne Oelke; Megan Anderson; Tim Leeson.
3.0 Interviewed John Klarich for the interim superintendent position.
4.0 Discussed the information from the interview.
5.0 Discussion and decide the steps necessary for the rest of the hiring process.
6.0 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Visser, to hire John Klarich for the interim superintendent position and to begin contract negotiations. Motion carried. (Vote: 5-0)
4.0 Moved by Visser, seconded by Colarich, to adjourn at 6:10 p.m. Motion carried. (Vote: 5-0)

Omerza/Callen moved to approve the minutes from the December 7, 2021 Public Hearing on the Sale of Land to the Loe’s, the Hearing regarding 726 E Camp St, the Hearing regarding 1811 E Chapman St, and the Hearing regarding 1945 E Harvey St., the December 7, 2021 Regular Council Meeting and December 7, 2021 Truth in Taxation Public Hearing. Motion Carried Unanimously.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The Ely Planning and Zoning - Board of Adjustment will be holding a public hearing to consider a request from a local applicant for the City of Ely to vacate a portion of its right of way located within Block 7 of the Chandler Addition to Ely. This land of interest is no longer being used as a public right of way by the City and is immediately adjacent to land owned by the applicant, exclusively. The parcel, if divided, would be approximately 0.26 acres in size and shall be subject to utility easements in the favor of Ely. The public hearing will be held on January 19th, 2022 at 5:00 pm in the City Council Chambers. A map of the location of the vacation is located under Notices on the City of Ely website – www.ely.mn.us.

Notice is hereby given that sealed bids will be received by the Council of the City of Ely, St. Louis County, Minnesota, until Wednesday, January 26, 2022, 2:00 P.M. for doing legal printing and display advertising for the City of Ely, Minnesota for the year 2022.

Bids shall be securely sealed and endorsed upon the outside wrapper: “Bids for City of Ely Printing for 2022”.

The City Council reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive any informalities therein.

Specifications, instructions and bid forms for interested bidders are available at the office of the Clerk/Treasurer, 209 E Chapman St, Ely, Minnesota 55731.
