2023 Turkey Trot fundraiser a success

Cold weather didn’t deter the 72 runners who participated in this year’s annual Turkey Trot, which donated all proceeds to Contented Critters.
While organizers don’t have an exact number for how much money was raised, the turnout was great and even included people from across the country who participated in the virtual rendition.
“We will be able to give a nice gift to Contented Critters,” said Cindi Rahn-Kloehn. “We just don’t know what that’s going to be quite yet.”
Rahn-Kloehn estimated the proceeds from the event would be near the $400 mark.
Cold weather wasn’t the only challenge the race faced this year, as a lack of sponsors presented financial difficulties to organizers.
Cindi Rahn-Kloehn from End of the Road Yoga and Colleen Kloehn from Kloehn Anesthesia were the only sponsors for the event.
“Next year we hope to have some sponsors helping us out so we can give a little more,” said Rahn-Kloehn.
Even with a lack of sponsors, they were still able to raise a considerable amount for Contented Critters.
“I think everybody feels like that’s a pretty good place to give money in town,” said Rahn-Kloehn.
While many participants were out of town for Thanksgiving, they still managed to donate and participate in the race and send pictures in.
People raced everywhere from Colorado to California to Florida to Chicago and Wisconsin.
Rahn-Kloehn wanted to thank those who donated to the event, including Lucky
Boy Services who donated an additional porta potty at the trailhead, and Crapola and Zup’s for donated gifts and treats for those who crossed the finish line.
The race got rave reviews from those who participated.
“What a fun race! Small but well organized, great communication and a good cause. I hope they’ll do it again next year!” said Melissa Flood.
“My family enjoyed participating in the Turkey Trot in Ely. Thank you for organizing this event. Although it was chilly, we had a nice time, and it was good to get outside and get some exercise. The drinks and snacks were very appreciated after the race. Kudos to the organizers!!” said Catherine von Euw.
“The Turkey Trot 5K was a blast! I hope it continues to grow! Thank you! Will be back next year!” said Jillian Lilja.
