James M. Koski, age 87, of Ely, MN, died Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Carefree Living in Ely, MN.
Jim was born April 23, 1936 in Ely, MN to Martha and Jacob Koski and graduated from Ely Memorial High School in 1955.
Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army. He married Helen Perko on June 28, 1958. They lived in Germany for two years while he was stationed there in the Army. Together they had two children, Jim Jr. and Nancy. Jim worked at Reserve Mining Company/Cyprus Mining/North Shore Mining as a skilled mechanic until retiring. When he wasn’t working, Jim could be found on the dance floor or at the hockey arena. He served as the president of the Ely Blue Line Club and coached youth hockey goalies for many years, one of his greatest pleasures.
He enjoyed home improvement projects and family trips across the country.
He is survived by his ex-wife Helen; son Jim (Julia) Koski and daughter, Nancy Koski; grandson Daniel T. Koski; nieces Marjorie Thompson and Martha (Bill) Sturgis; nephews Paul Koski.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother & sister-in-law Jack & Margaret Koski, his niece Patty Koschak and nephew Jack Koski.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ely Blue Line Club.
