School Board Meeting Minutes

1.0 The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Marsnik.

2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Westlund, Coombe, Colarich, Omerza, Marsnik. Absent: Sjoberg. Also in attendance: Anne Oelke, Superintendent/PreK-5 Principal; Jeff Carey, 6-12 Principal; Tim Leeson, Facilities and Transportation Director; Tom Coombe, The Ely Echo; Catie Clark, Timberjay.

3.0 Pledge of Allegiance

4.0 Approval of Agenda:

   4.a. Moved by Colarich, seconded by Omerza, to approve the agenda as

amended. Motion carried (Vote: 5,0)

6.0 Correspondence/Informational Items:

   7.a. Moved by Omerza, seconded by Colarich, to approve following Program

   Consent Agenda:

      7.a.1.Approved the minutes of the regular meeting of September 11, 2023.

      7.a.2. Approved the minutes of the study session of September 25, 2023.

      7.a.3. Approved September 2023 receipts in the amount of $686,826.05 and disbursements in the amount of $281,805.09.

      7.a.4. Approved September 2023 Financial Report.

      7.a.5.Approved Memorandum of Understanding Between Ely School District ISD #696 and Arrowhead Head Start (AEOA) for services to be provided from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

      7.a.6.Approved revised Managed Services Contract with Voltz effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

   Personnel Consent Agenda:

      7.b.1.Hired Trenton Flegel for the Paraprofessional position (6.5 hours/day, 5 days/week, student contact days) effective September 25, 2023 per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local 295.7.b.2.Hired Ronda Puzel for the Paraprofessional position (2.75 hours/day, 5 days/week, student contact days) effective August 28, 2023 per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local    295.

      7.b.3.Hired Michelle Zollar for the Paraprofessional position (2.75 hours/day, 5 days/week, student contact days) effective August 28, 2023 per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local 295.

      7.b.4.Approved the following Extra-Curricular assignments for the 2023-2024 musical as recommended by Jeff Carey, Memorial 6-12 Principal and Mike Rouse, Musical Director, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and Ely Education Association: Elias Mocole, Music Director; Tatianna Riabokin, Choreographer; Marcia Homer, Band Director; Nick Holtz, Technician; Cathy Gucciardo/Jane Dandron (split stipend), Costumers; Barb Litchfield/Margie Miller (split stipend), Accompanist.

      7.b.5.Corrected Nick Bates, .40 FTE Science/Social Studies high school teacher, lane from MA, Step 2 to MA, Step 3 effective September 5, 2023.

9.0 New Business:

   9.a.Moved by Westlund, seconded by Omerza, to approve the 2023-2024 Q-Comp budget. Motion carried. (Vote: 5,0)

   9.b.Moved by Colarich, seconded by Coombe, to accept quote from Phil Hegfors and Son Construction in the amount of $53,650.00 for track repairs. Motion carried. (Vote: 5,0)

   9.c.Moved by Westlund, seconded Coombe by to approve individual event passes to school staff who complete one supervision shift at a game. Motion carried. (Vote: 5,0)

   9.d.Moved by Colarich, seconded by Coombe, to approve entering into a cooperative agreement with Northeast Range for boys basketball and boys and girls Nordic skiing for the 2023-2024 season. Motion carried. (Vote: 5,0)

   9.e.Moved by Omerza, seconded by Coombe to approve an additional Paraprofessional position (6.5 hrs./day, 5 days/week, student contact days). Motion carried. (Vote: 5,0)

   9.f.Moved by Colarich, seconded by Omerza, to approve Resolution Accepting Donations. Motion carried. (Vote: 5,0)

NOTICE OF AND ORDER FOR HEARING ON PETITION FOR FORMAL ADJUDICATION OF INTESTACY, DETERMINATION OF HEIRS, FORMAL APPOINTMENT OF PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE AND NOTICE TO CREDITORS

 

It is Ordered and Notice is given that on December 11, 2023 at 9:30 a.m., a hearing will be held in this Court at the St. Louis County Court House, Virginia, Minnesota, on a petition for the adjudication of intestacy and determination of decedent’s heirs, and for the appointment of Davis Paul Cornwell, whose address is 5012 Shelby Ave, Apt 205, Rapid City, SD 57701 as Personal Representative of the decedent’s estate in an unsupervised administration. * This hearing will be held remotely via Zoom Technology.

 

Any objections to the petition must be raised at the hearing or filed with the Court prior to the hearing. If the petition is proper and no objections are filed or raised, the personal representative will be appointed with the full power to administer the decedent’s estate, including the power to collect all assets; to pay all legal debts, claims, taxes, and expenses; to sell real and personal property; and to do all necessary acts for the decedent’s estate.

 

Notice is further given that, subject to Minn. Stat. § 524.3-801, all creditors having claims against the decedent’s estate are required to present the claims to the personal representative or to the Court within four (4) months after the date of this notice or the claims will be barred.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION VIDEO/ORAL HISTORIES PROJECT

 

The City of Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission is soliciting proposals for a videographer to create a video/oral histories for the Ely Memorial High School Centennial Anniversary, 1924-2024.

 

A complete copy of the requirements and specifications can be requested from the Ely Clerk’s Office at 209 E Chapman St, Ely, MN. A copy of the requirements will also be available at www.ely.mn.us/rfp.

 

Proposals will be accepted at the Ely Clerks Office until 4pm, Monday, November 27, 2023 or emailed to casey.velcheff@ely.mn.us

 

The City Council reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive any informalities therein.
