1.0 The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Marsnik.

2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Westlund, Coombe, Colarich, Omerza, Sjoberg, Marsnik Absent: None. Also in attendance: Anne Oelke, Superintendent/PreK-5 Principal; Jeff Carey, 6-12 Principal; Tim Leeson, Facilities and Transportation Director; Tom Coombe, The Ely Echo; Catie Clark, Timberjay.

1.0 The study session of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room by Chair Marsnik at 6:00 p.m.

2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Coombe, Westlund Colarich, Omerza, Sjoberg, Marsnik. Absent: None. Westlund. Also present: Anne Oelke, K-5 Principal/Superintendent; Jeff Carey, 6-12 Principal; Tim Leeson, Facilities and Transportation Director; Catie Clark, Timberjay.

3.0 21st Century Facility Project update was given by Tim Leeson.

4.0 Reviewed Ely Public Schools Chromebook IAU and Insurance.

5.0 Community School Grant by Jeff Carey.

6.0 Second reading of revised policy 450 At Will.

7.0 Reviewed final draft of District Communication Plan.

8.0 Discussed price increases for adult meals, "doubles", and milk for the 2023-2024 school year.

9.0 Discussed the increase of two additional 2.75 hr. paraprofessional positions.

4.0 Moved by Omerza, seconded by Westlund, to Hire Monica Gross for the Temporary Part-Time Custodian position (4 hours/day, 5 days/week, student contact days) effective August 28, 2023, for the 2023 - 2024 school year per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local 295. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

5.0 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Sjoberg, to hire Megan Dietzmann for the Cafeteria Aide position (2.75 hrs./day, 5 days/week, student contact days) effective August 28, 2023, per school board policy and the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and AFSCME Local 295. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

6.0 Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Coombe, to approve Contract for Professional Services with MnSchool Services (Spencer Aune) for July 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

7.0 Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Coombe, to approve Business Manager Mentorship Agreement between ISD No. 696 and Jordan Huntbatch, effective September 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

8.0 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Coombe, to approve price increase of a carton of milk from $0.50 to $0.75 cents effective the 2023-2024 school year. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

9.0 Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Westlund, to approve price increase of "doubles" from $1.50 to $2.00 effective the 2023-2024 school year. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

10.0 Moved by Colarich, seconded by Coombe, to approve price increase of adult breakfast from $2.00 to $2.25 and adult lunch from $4.50 to $5.00 effective the 2023-2024 school year. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

11.0 Moved by Sjoberg, seconded by Coombe, to approve two 2.75 hr. paraprofessional positions. Motion carried (Vote: 6-0)

Notice is hereby given that sealed bids for the Ely Area Community Foundation Facility will be addressed and delivered to Ely Area Community Foundation, C/O Widseth at 704 East Howard Street, Hibbing, MN 55746.

 

    BID DATE:October 5, 2023

    BID TIME:1:00 PM Local Time

 

All bids must be prepared on the form provided by the Architect, are to be in a sealed opaque envelope conspicuously marked on the outside identifying the project name and are to be submitted in accordance with the project procurement requirements.

 

Plans, Specifications and Proposal Forms as prepared by Widseth Smith Nolting & Associates, Inc., 704 East Howard Street, Hibbing, MN 55746, (218) 263-6868, are available from the Architect's office either in electronic form at no cost or in hard copy form for a non-refundable fee for the cost of reproduction. Plans and Specifications may be reviewed at the offices of the Architect, the Owner, and the Minnesota Builders Exchange.

 

Each bid must be accompanied by a certified check, cashier's check, or bidder's bond in the amount of five percent (5%) of the bid, payable to the Owner; as provided in the specifications, said check and the amount thereof or the amount of the bidder's bond to be forfeited as liquidated damages if the bidder furnishing the same neglects or refuses to promptly carry out said bid or enter into contract with Ely Area Community Foundation.

 

No bids may be withdrawn within thirty (30) days from the scheduled closing time for receiving bids.

 

The right is reserved to reject any or all bids or parts of bids and to waive informalities therein, and to award the contract to other than the lowest bid¬der if in their discretion the interests of the Owner will be best served thereby.

Public Hearing Notice

 

The Ely Board of Adjustment will be holding a public hearing on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 at 5:00 pm in the City Hall council chambers. The hearing is being held to consider the granting of a Conditional Use Permit for permitting an expansion to an existing RV Park/ Campground in Shoreland Mixed Use Zoning. The proposed location is to be at 1759 N Pioneer Rd.-Parcel# 030-0500-00053, and 030-0500-00054.

 

The Ely Board of Adjustment will also be holding a public hearing for considering a Variance on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 at 5:00 pm in the City Hall council chambers. The hearing is to consider granting a variance for adjustment of set-back building requirements from 75 feet on Miners Lake to 60 feet to accommodate the building of a campground host site. Ely Public Schools is looking for a K-12 Physical Education/Health long term substitute teacher starting Monday, October 2nd, 2023 through November 3rd, 2023. Salary and fringes as per the Master Agreement between ISD #696 and the Ely Education Association and School Board policy. A background check is required.

 

Qualifications include:

• Current Minnesota teaching license

• Previous teaching experience preferred

• Excellent communication skills including
