I attended the opening night performance on Saturday, November 12 and can describe this theatrical experience in one word – WOW! I had to pinch myself, thinking I was on Broadway. What a show! What a performance! What a cast performed by the talented students of Ely Memorial High School.
Mary Poppins had its start in the West End Theater District in London. The show opened on Broadway on November 16, 2006 where it ran for 2,619 performances. It was nominated for seven Tony Awards. The show closed in New York on March 13, 2013 making a huge profit for its investors.
The Ely production boasted a cast of 27 members all “practically perfect in their own delightful way!”

This week’s headline atop the front page - An election night for the ages - speaks volumes.
Shock waves continue to reverberate around the globe and throughout the United States in the midst of Donald Trump’s stunning victory in the presidential race.
It was a triumph that may know no match in American electoral history.
Indeed, even as the returns began pouring in on Tuesday night, and the raw vote total clearly signalled a Trump upset, many of the TV talking heads were rattling off talking points fueled by faulty pre-election poling as well as Election Day exit polls.
It was as if the pundits were trying to talk themselves into believing Clinton was heading toward a decisive win when the evidence clearly showed the opposite. They were expressing one narrative while the voters were delivering a thunderous and divergent message - one that took hours to recognize.

News outlets wonder where the predictions went wrong, was a headline in the NY Times. The American Press Institute questioned how news organizations missed voter sentiment.
Ah, they must have forgotten the role daily newspapers and television played in the election of James George Janos, better known by Jesse Ventura. The coverage of this phenomena was far beyond space and time given to gubernatorial candidates Norman Coleman (Republican) and favored son “Skip” Humphrey (Democrat). Many folks howled when Jesse became Minnesota’s 38th Governor.
Trump’s campaign was a blown-up version of Ventura’s. Research the web and you’ll find a photo of them together.
But who pays attention? Researchers for advanced university degrees? Nobody, it appears notices that the impossible changed not only political history, but also enticed youth and other voters.
