Fall Lake residents will get guidance on recyclable items

by Nancy McReady -
It was a cold and blustery evening, but few residents ventured out for the hour-long Fall Lake Township regular meeting.
It was announced that David Shober has been hired to replace transfer station attendant Brad Horoshak. Fill-in attendant Dean Barrett has provided guidance to Shober.
Before moving on to township business, the board passed a resolution designating Fall Lake Town Hall as the township’s polling place.
Supervisor Mary Tome said she had attended the legislative meeting. She said there was a full house to hear what has been going on at the state level. Discussion included the sulfate limits by the MPCA.
Barrett suggested having a list of recyclable items as many residents are not sure what can and what cannot be recycled. Supervisor Craig Seliskar will check with Lake County Environmental Services Manager Christine McCarthy about allowable recyclables, and also with BJ Kohlstedt, Emergency Management Director, to address the size of trees for the brush pile and what is allowable for burning.
Another concern at the transfer site was the recycling of metal. Tome suggested the township eliminate collecting any metal.
It was noted that township roads have been sanded due to the unseasonable rain and melting, causing very icy conditions. Also the brushing done on township roads was greatly appreciated.
A resident asked about refilling of fire extinguishers. This is not something the township schedules.
A new Deputy Sheriff has been hired for the area and is in training.
2018 will be a busy election year. The filling for one three-year term as supervisor will be open from January 2 until January 16. There will also be a primary election and then general election.
Supervisor Rod Gruba wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
