Robert Eugene Sharp, 94, of Ely, dies

Robert Eugene Sharp, 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely. He was born on Oct. 23, 1919 to Sam and Chloe Sharp in Nappanee, IN.
He proudly served in WWII as an Army sargeant. He came to Minnesota and was a lab and x-ray tech for Dr.Snyker at the Winton Hospital for four years. In 1955 the family moved to Duluth where he worked for the St Louis County Health Dept as a Sanitarian for 12 years and then transferred to Ely until his retirement in 1982.
Besides his love for God and his family, his greatest joy was fishing, hunting and berry picking which he did into his 90s. His ability to express his loves was evident through the many poems he wrote.
As a charter member of Ely Baptist Church (LedgeRock) as well as membership at Temple Baptist in Duluth, his faithfulness was shown by a 1ifetime of 1eadership and service in many capacities. In his own words, “Anything good that I accomplished must be credited to God. In His mercy and grace I was exceedingly blessed.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Timothy and son-in-law Dan.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Maxine; daughters: Rita (Don) Coay of Ely, Amy (Dan) Bishop of Duluth, Brenda (Bill) Hicks in CO; daughter-tn-law Julie (Tim) Sharp in CO; brother Arthur and sister Barbara (Orien) Hall in FL; plus six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service with family and friends will be held at LedgeRock Church on Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
