Veterans on the Lake Resort celebrating 40 years of serving veterans with event on Sept. 9

On Saturday, Sept. 9, Veterans on the Lake Resort will be celebrating 40 years of serving veterans.

The event starts at 2 p.m. and there will be an open house to check out the improvements they’ve have made, a chance to ride in a hot air balloon, great food and live music.

Performers include: Hank Thunander Polka Band, Pat and Donna Surface and the Minnesota Army National Guard 34 ID Boots and Brass Band. There will be a giant big top tent with 500 seats for the music, so rain or shine.

Those at the big event there on July 15, Under The Big Top, experienced some great food served by the VFW and the American Legion. They will be back with their pulled pork sandwiches and brats everyone raved about.

Veterans on The Lake is a non-profit and their main focus is serving disabled veterans and their families. Second is current and retired military and families, and disabled public and families. They also serve the general public.

New accomplishments for Veterans on The Lake include a new wheelchair accessible fishing pier, two new wheelchair accessible cabins, repaving the entire resort, repowering of the boat motors, modifying two pontoon boats for wheelchair accessibility and constructing two handicap accessible fish cleaning houses.

Upcoming projects include a new handicap friendly bathroom and shower in the upstairs of the main lodge, repaving the basketball court and renovating docks to be wheelchair accessible by cabins 18-21.

Veterans on The Lake provides a barrier-free setting for a memorable outdoor recreation experience for disabled veterans, veterans, their friends, family and supporters. Designed “With Veterans in Mind” recognizing what they have contributed to and sacrificed for our nation.

Spend the afternoon at Veterans on the Lake for fun, food, and music - and support our Veterans. Only a free will donation. From 2-8 p.m.
