Ely girls to play at Target Center

For at least a couple of hours next month, the Minnesota Timberwolves will step aside for the Ely Timberwolves.

Target Center, home of the state’s NBA team, will play host to an Ely high school girls basketball game next month.

Ely is set to take on Chisholm on Saturday, Dec. 6, on the Target Center court.

On various dates, the NBA Timberwolves make their court and the 20,000seat arena available to high school teams from across the upper Midwest, and Ely jumped at the opportunity.

The Ely Timberwolves will tangle with the Chisholm Bluestreaks, and the contest will be a family affair of sorts.

Ely’s head coach, Tomi (McDonald) Cole, will be matched up against a Chisholm team coached by her uncle, Joel McDonald.

The Wolves and the Bluestreaks figure to be two of the better teams in Section 7A and the early-season matchup will take place in a marquee venue.

The Wolves need to sell about 125 tickets, at $55 each, to participate in the contest. The ticket is also good for the NBA Timberwolves’ home matchup that evening.

Tickets are available online at the following link: https://tickets.timberwolves. com/offers/3389 Enter promo code = 25ELYGBB26 Ely will tangle with Chisholm in a girls and boys twinbill that starts at 3 p.m.

Ely’s team will make the trip south in style.

Thanks to the support of the Ely Hoop Club, both teams will travel by chartered bus to Minneapolis.
