VCC’s Bodie, Clater make all-division

Freshmen Trinity Bodie and Kye Clater made an immediate impact in the Vermilion womens basketball team lineup this winter.

That extended into conference play as both were named to the MCAC All-Northern Division Team, as picked by league coaches.

Bodie, a guard from Nassaau, Bahamas, was named to the all-division first team while Clater, who hails from Henderson, TX, gained second- team recognition.

The honors came on the heels of perhaps one of the best seasons in two decades for Vermilion, which collected 14 wins and reached the regional semifinals.

Bodie handled the ball for the Ironhawks and was all over the floor, scoring 13 points per contest while shooting 35 percent from the floor.

Her contributions came in other ways as well, as she averaged five rebounds, three assists and three steals per night.

In addition to the all-division honors, Bodie was also named to the All-Region 13 Team, which encompasses both the Northern and Southern Divisions of the MCAC. “For Trinity, I think what gets recognized about her is the impact she had on both ends of the floor,” said Vermilion Head Coach Ryan Zyla. “She had to make plays for everybody and if you look at the box score she scores, she gets steals and gets rebounds. For her to get all-region also we were happy to see that and it was well deserved.”

Clater emerged as one of the top scoring threats in the division.

The Texan moved into the Vermilion lineup prior to the start of conference play and led the Ironhawks by averaging 15.7 points per game.

That included 32 points in a late-January loss to Gogebic and a late-season stretch in which she scored 20 points or more in sevenof- nine games.

“Kye was probably our ninth person at the start of the year but after some injuries she just filled some shoes quickly and she became a shot hunter and had the confidence and the ability,” said Zyla.

Clater also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
