I go to church with Jean Crook who is a graduate of Babbitt’s Class of 1969. She brings her granddaughters to services. I was surprised at the annual Christmas program that the doctor who has me on a weight loss program was in the crowd. Turns out she’s the mom of Jean’s grandkids. Geez, I thought the doc was there to make sure I didn’t sneak any Christmas cookie calories.
Calories are important in weather, too, though heat calories are a different beast than food energy calories. Every gram of water vapor holds at least 680 calories of latent heat. That’s stored heat that isn’t felt until the water changes state. When it condenses back into liquid, those calories are released to the air and can be used to warm the air and lift up storms. That process will be possible in April as thunderstorms return with spring.
Temperatures will be a little warmer than normal and precip will be only a little below normal so temps in April should average one degree over normal which is right on the border of normal climate variability. Precip will be a half inch short which hopefully won’t short change our green up. April 1-6 should be mild with some thunderstorms possible. April 7-10 will be sunny and cool from Canadian high pressure cells. The 11th to 25th will be showery with near normal temperatures. The last week of the month will mild and sunny.
Now that this forecast has been delivered, it is back to avoiding carbs in my calorie count per doctor’s orders. You never know where they’re lurking!
