Davies part of winning team in all-star event

Jack Davies contributed to a victory in his final high school basketball game.

The Ely senior joined other elite players from northern Minnesota and contributed to their 88-74 win over a Wisconsin senior all-star team Tuesday night in Duluth.

Davies had four points in the Minnesota team’s victory in the 18th Annual Border Battle, which was held at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Romano Gymnasium.

Davies joined players from Braham, Barnum, Cherry, Aitkin, Deer River, Hibbing, Grand Rapids and Duluth Denfeld for the event.

It was a grand finale for the five-year varsity starter, who suited up at the varsity level for the first time as a seventh-grader and set a school scoring record.

Davies currently ranks first on the school’s all-time scoring list with 2,430 points.

He earned All-Iron Range Conference and All-Arrowehad Conference honors this year while helping Ely to a 21-8 record.

Elyite Paul McDonald also was part of the Border Battle, serving as one of the coaches for the Wisconsin all-stars.
