Ely police force busy in February

The latest report from the Ely Police Department showed plenty of activity during the month of February.

While only 28 days long, the police had seven cases sent out and referred for formal charges including cases for:

• Terroristic threats;

• Obstruct with force;

• Disorderly conduct;

• Interfering with a police officer;

• Carrying a pistol while intoxicated;

• Third-degree assault;

• Second-degree DUI. Two of those cases resulted in arrests with suspects lodged at the St. Louis County Jail in Hibbing.

That’s because the closer lock-up facility in Virginia is being remodeled.

Ely officers also wrote 70 parking tickets in February and issued 11 citations for infractions including:

• Failing to stop at stop sign;

• No proof of vehicle insurance; • Uninsured vehicle;

• Failure to possess drivers license;

• Obstructing a handicap parking space;

• Display of fictitious drivers license;

• Misrepresentation of age;

• Expired license plate tabs;

• Failure to yield.
