At the Ely Public Library on Monday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. the program will be Mini Books Dropin Craft – for all ages with help. Stop by the Library and make yourself a mini book for National Library Week. No registration necessary. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m. the program will be Armchair Travel: Russia with Tara Boerst. Do you want to see the world, but your budget or time commitments keep you from going everywhere? Listen to other local people who have had some fantastic trips and experience the world through their eyes. This is equally great if you are looking for some ideas on where you want to go next or just want to dream your way through another destination with pictures and stories.
Have you ever wondered how your family’s past connects to larger moments in history? Discover how your personal story fits into the bigger social picture in two sessions from the Ely-Winton Historical Society facilitated by MN North Sociology instructor Claire Anderson. Session #1- Tuesday, April 21, 5-7 p.m. Vermilion classroom 146: Exploring Family History Using Your Sociological Imagination; Session #2- Tuesday, April 28, 5-7 p.m. Vermilion classroom 146: Conducting Genealogical Research Using the Sociological Imagination At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, April 22 at 2 p.m. the program will be Jigsaw Puzzle Competition – for elementary ages and older (please sign up in teams). Compete for the honor of being the fastest puzzler in Ely. Each team will get to keep their exclusive Ely Library puzzle at the end of the event. Please register with a team of up to four people; there are six team slots available.
Is Ely a dying town? Join Braver Angels Ely Alliance for a discussion on the indications that support or deny this assertion. Share your opinions and experience in a respectful manner, and listen to others’ viewpoints. April 22 at 6 p.m., at the Ely Community Center.
At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, April 23 at 3 p.m. the program will be Hey, It’s a Holiday: National Kite Month – for all ages with help. Let’s go fly a kite and send it soaring! But first we will make one right here in the Ely Public Library. Supplies included. Registration required. Limited number of spots available. This program is for all ages but littles will need to bring someone to help them. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library. (Max 20) At the Ely Public Library on Friday, April 24 from noon to 4 p.m. the Friends of the Library will be sponsoring Blind Date with a Book – for all ages. Stop by the library to learn more about the Friends of the Library and choose a book blindly.
On Saturday, April 25 there will be the annual Community Cleanup and Tree Mulching. Volunteers are invited to help clean up Ely and mulch community trees for Arbor Day. No drop-offs, this is a volunteer-only event.
The Ely 100 Women Who Care event will take place Sunday, April 26, at the Community Center (former Senior Center). The potluck will begin at 4 p.m. with a chance to learn about area non profits while strolling around with appetizers. Next comes the nominations then the voting and then the award to the deserving non profit that receives the most votes. All present are encouraged to donate to the winning organization. Individually or in teams with the total donation $100 or more. They will also hear from the Ely Area Food Shelf how they used the gift they received last October. The event wraps up around 5:30 p.m. Bring a friend and enjoy a fun evening of supporting a local organization. Questions call Cindy Gardner at 651-303-1094.
University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership will be hosting a StormWise Minnesota emergency preparedness workshop at the Ely Community Center on Wednesday, April 29 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This is a make-up for a program that was canceled in March.
