The Superior National Forest will temporarily close the Grassy Lake Road for public and contractor safety while a construction project occurs.
Forest Road 459–Grassy Lake Road on the Kawishiwi Ranger District is scheduled to have a large culvert replaced, beginning in October 2026.
Access to Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Mudro Lake entry point from this roadway will be impacted. The temporary closure is planned for two weeks with intermittent closures outside of that period.
Pre-notification project letters were sent to property owners this winter.
Permit holders planning to exit at Mudro Lake after Sept. 30, will receive an email regarding alternative parking options.
