Free round of trap or skeet, Vermilion Range Trap Club (Old Winton Rd), Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m. - noon.

The Ely Memorial High School Prom Grand March will be Saturday, May 2 at 5 p.m. in Washington Auditorium.

At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, May 5 at 3 p.m. the program will be Library Scientists: Forensic Science – Is It Poisonous? This is geared toward grades four through six. Have you ever wanted to solve a crime? This program will give you tips on how to identify an unknown white solid that may be evidence at a crime scene. Please register in advance. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, May 6 at 1 p.m. the program will be Curiosity Cohort: Beaded Jewelry – for adults and older teens. Join Rachel to learn some simple beading techniques and make either a bracelet or a necklace to keep. Must pre-register. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. the program will be Legacy author Margie Preus. Join Minnesota author Preus for a dynamic and interactive presentation sure to inspire young writers. Kids pre-K though eighth grade, and even grown-ups, will learn about writing and expand their writing skills through these free events. Attendees will learn the stories behind the stories, participate in a group storytelling activity, and gain plenty of writing tips. This program is funded in whole or in part by funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage monies.

A Travelogue and Potluck dinner at the Vermilion Park Inn at 30 Center St. in Soudan hosted by the Lake Vermilion Cultural Center between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 will have Jill and Terry Wagoner present memories of their motorcycle adventure in Ecuador, which took them from high in the Andes down to the Amazon River with 12 other motorcyclists.

Vermilion Community College will hold commencement exercises on May 13.

Spring Cleanup Days, a junk drop-off event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 16. Residents can bring unwanted items to Whiteside Park for disposal, no volunteering required.

Citywide rummage sales will be held on Saturday, May 16. Shop and sell throughout Ely, watch for listings and maps coming soon.

Ely City-wide Rummage, Business Crazy Day, and Used Equipment & Watercraft Sale on Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. $10 registration fee. Receive a listing on the map and advertising.
