One dead, three injured after boat crash on Lake Vermilion

BEATTY TOWNSHIP — A boat crash Tuesday night on Lake Vermilion claimed the life of one individual and left three others hospitalized, according to a report by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

At 6:22 p.m. on May 12, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and numerous rescue personnel responded to the 3600 block of Black Bay Road, which is on Lake Vermilion, in response to a report of a boat accident involving numerous peoplebeingthrownfromboatsand into the water. The crash occurred near Manbeck Island, located in Beatty Township, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Three people were transported from the scene, via ambulance and one of them was then airlifted to a Duluth Hospital. A fourth party involved, was pronounced deceased at the scene, after life-saving efforts by medical personnel were unsuccessful.

The deceased party has been identified as 53-year-old Jeremy Brandon Johnson from Eveleth. The accident remains under investigation.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cook Ambulance, Tower Ambulance, Virginia Ambulance, Orr Ambulance, the Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
