No matter the event, the Ely Timberwolves seemed to be accumulating points at Tuesday’s Iron Range Conference girls track meet.
When the dust settled, Ely ran away with the team title, scoring 148 points to easily outdistance five other schools on a cool day in Aurora.
Sophomore Violet Udovich won two events, teammates Isabella Macho, Kaylin Visser and Lydia Shultz each won one, and the Wolves picked up two first in relay competitions on the way to the team title.
Ely also picked up points in other events to top its nearest foe by 31 points, and sent a signal that the Wolves will be a force to contend with at the May 21 7A North Subsection Meet, which will also take place in Aurora.
Udovich continued a big year, sprinting to wins in the 100 (11.93) and 200 (24.87) dashes.
Macho topped the field in the 300 hurdles as the junior finished in 51.05 seconds, while classmate Shultz won the high jump at 5-0.
Visser maintained her dominance in the discus - throwing 106 feet, eight inches to add another gold medal to her collection.
Ely also was first in the four-by-400 relay as Shultz, Addison Forsman, Mattie Lindsay and Molly Brophy combined to win in 4:26.09.
In the four-by-800, it was Lindsay, Macho, Molly Brophy and Elsa Ellerbroek who formed a winning combination in 10:45.03.
Shultz had the Wolves’ only second place finish and it came in the long jump (15-4).
The Wolves also had three individual third-place finishes with Macho (high jump, 4-6), Forsman (discus, 87-0) and Lindsay (300 hurdles, 53.64).
Saturday’s Kerzie Invitational, to be held at the Rock Ridge track near Virginia, will serve as a final warmup before the subsection competition.
