Ely City-wide Rummage, Business Crazy Day, and Used Equipment & Watercraft Sale on Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. $10 registration fee. Receive a listing on the map and advertising. Registration deadline Saturday, May 9, at 4 pm. Stop at the Ely Chamber of Commerce, Ely Regional Trailhead 15 S 4th Avenue W, or visit Ely.org/ citywide for a registration form and details.

History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. The last program of the season will be on May 20 and the subject will be float planes. Float and ski planes used to be a staple in the Ely Area for resort owners, tourists and land managers like the U.S. Forest Service to access remote areas in what is now the Boundary Waters. What types of planes were used? How many resorts did they service? Join host Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum, as she scratches the surface on this local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, May 20 at 2:15 p.m. the program will be Hey, It’s a Holiday: Gardening for Wildlife Month discussing native plants that are good to grow here in Northeastern Minnesota that would also be good for wildlife. Make a simple bird feeder and start a bird bath that will need to be finished at home as well as starting some native plants. Please pre-register.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, May 21 at noon the program will be Deadly Knits. Knit-along (or crochet) while listening to and discussing a true crime podcast. Registration not required. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

The next monthly meeting of Ely Chapter FD of P.E.O. International will be Thursday, May 21 at Grace Lutheran Church with social time at 12:30 p.m. and meeting to follow at 1 p.m. All visiting members are welcome. Call program chairman Kathy Champa at 218-220-0969 with any questions.

The Washington Elementary spring concert is on Thursday, May 21, at 1:15 p.m.

The city of Ely will host an Iron Range Brownfields Lunch & Learn on May 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ely City Hall. Part of an ongoing series, the event focuses on redevelopment opportunities across the Taconite Assistance Area. Sessions connect community members, property owners and local leaders with professionals working on site cleanup and reuse projects.

Ely Presbyterian Church will be hosting a presentation on “ Attachment in Relationships” on May 21 at 6 p.m.

Local storytellers are gathering on Thursday, May 21 in the Lookout Lounge at the Boat House in Ely to swap tales of life in the north woods. The event, starting at 6:30 p.m., is free and open to the public A Travelogue and Potluck dinner at the Vermilion Park Inn at 30 Center St. in Soudan hosted by the Lake Vermilion Cultural Center between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 will be a presentation about Israel and the Holy Land with Mary Batinich.

The Ely Chapter of Braver Angels will meet on May 27 at the Ely Community Center to discuss: What is patriotism? In the Revolutionary War, were the Tories patriots or the American rebels? Were the Confederate or Union soldiers patriots?

A Travelogue and Potluck dinners at the Vermilion Park Inn at 30 Center St. in Soudan hosted by the Lake Vermilion Cultural Center between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 will have Patty Phillips and Sharon Legg bringing pictures in tales of their adventure in Thailand.

Ely Indivisible will host voter registration tables (non-partisan as required by law) at the Ely Farmers Market from June 2 every Tuesday at Whiteside Park through Sept. 29 from 4-7 p.m.

On June 5 and 6, the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra presents Orchestra Meets Funk & Soul, A Funk-Forward Fundraiser to benefit the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra. The
