Fall Lake special meeting on Winton Point Road

A special Fall Lake Township meeting was called to discuss to bid proposals.

All three supervisors, Craig Seliskar, Hudson Kingston and Roger Murawski along with clerk Cheri DeBeltz and treasurer Don Stocks met to discuss the possibility of Minnesota Power helping out the township on the Winton Point Road due to recurring flooding on the road.

Seliskar talked with the foreman working on the substation project at the Power Dam if there was any material Minnesota Power could offer or monetary funds, or basically anything they can do to help the township.

Seliskar was told if they come across good material that they need to get rid of, for a two-foot lift on the Winton Point Road, it could end up there. Minnesota Power has been working on their project and something could come up.

“The material could be free,” said Seliskar.

Seliskar contacted Phil Hegfors and asked if he would be able to haul the material if offered on a moment’s notice and he said yes. The township would pay for the hauling of the material.

Hegfors put together a bid for hauling the material, and also for Class 5 to top the two-foot lift.

If material becomes available before the next meeting from Minnesota Power this was a decision that couldn’t wait. The board accepted Hegfors bid.

Kingston said it would be good to have bids from other contractors as well. But this needed to be addressed before the next meeting.

Murawski asked if the township needs to use its pit run instead would we need prices for what that would cost. Seliskar said yes. Township contractors would be contacted to get the lowest bid. That could be done at the next township meeting.

The other issue to be discussed was the brushing and tree cutting on the Cloquet Line at the county line. This section of the road needs to be opened up to allow the sun to dry the road.

Seliskar received a message from Jeff Schulze saying that he won’t be able to do the job at this time, as he is shorthanded with workers. This will be put off to the fall, at which time a new estimate will be given for the job.
