The election isn’t until November, but candidate filings are rapidly approaching for this year’s Ely School Board election.
A two-week filing period for candidates begins on July 14 and runs through July 28.
The board is set to have at least one new member as incumbent Tony Colarich announced in May that he won’t seek a third term on the board.
Colarich said he made the announcement early to give people notice and perhaps encourage prospective candidates to run.
Three seats on the six-member board go to the voters this year.
Those are the positions now held by board chair Rochelle Sjoberg, Jen Westlund and Colarich.
All three seats carry fouryear terms and will go on the ballot in November.
Affidavits of Candidacy will be available from the school district clerk, District Office, 600 E. Harvey St. The filing fee for this office is $2.
The filing period closes at 5 p.m. on July 28.
Earlier this year, candidate filings were completed for Ely’s municipal elections, with mayor Heidi Omerza set to be challenged by council member Emily Roose.
The city council race has six candidates for three seats, with incumbents Al Forsman and Angela Campbell on the ballot with former member Mark Zupec, as well as Abby Dare, Lacey Squier and Josh Brang.
