Two candidates filed to run for Babbitt mayor, while six local residents will vie for two open seats on the city council.
Currentcitycouncilmemberand former mayor Duane Lossing will seek re-election to lead Babbitt’s government. Former long-time Babbitt clerk-treasurer Cathy Hoheisel will run against Lossing.
Claire High, Jacob Myers, Terrance Switajewski, Shyanne Cersine, Glenn Anderson, and current council member Joe White filed as candidates for city council.
White and Jim Lassi are approaching the end of their four-year terms on the council. Lassi will not seek re-election.
Seats held by Duane Lossing and John Fitzpatrick will be on the ballot in 2028. Should Lossing win the mayoral election, an additional seat will open on the council.
Minnesota statutory law states that the vacancy of a city council position may be filled by council appointment if there is less than two years in the unexpired term, or by council appointment followed by a special election.
The filing period closed Tuesday, July 28 at 5 p.m.
