An event that almost didn’t happen due to wildfires in the Ely area turned out to be a success.
According to the IWA Racing online posts: The Ely Watercross Association’s 21st annual watercross was one for the books.
New winners, huge upsets, blown sleds and some incredible racing made this one of those weekends you just couldn’t predict.
• Tyler Baird picked up his first-ever Pro Open win, a huge moment after battling his way to the top of the toughest class his first year.
• Biggest shock of the weekend, season points leader Jimmy Marietta had his sled blow up, taking him out before Sunday’s Pro Open racing.
• Justin Jurva stepped up and earned his first Semi Pro Open win!
