The Minnesota Department of Transportation has returned traffic control to signalized intersections on Sheridan Street in Ely on Aug. 25. The intersections at Central Ave and Third Avenue East had been flashing red with stop signs.
These changes were based on engineering studies and public input for the two intersections assessing improving safety and intersection operations. The signals are near the end of their expected service lives, and MnDOT is looking at mid-to-long-term solutions for them. No further intersection control changes are planned in the near future.
The Ely city council and state Rep. Roger Skraba (R-Ely) have opposed the move by MNDOT.
