Debeltz/Callen moved to approve the minutes from the April 20, 2021 Regular Council Meeting, and the April 22, 2021 Local Board of Appeal and Equalization Meeting. Motion Carried Unanimously.

City of Ely Board of Adjustment will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday May 19th at 5:45 pm to consider a Variance request for relief from R-1 zone dimensional standards. Applicants are Todd Norsten and Leslie Bari Cohan 1345 Pioneer Road N. Ely MN 55731. Parcel No. 030-0270-00020.

One (1) Variance from R-1 zone dimensional standards is requested; to allow a 17’-4” side wall dimension where 22’ minimum side wall dimension is required. The proposed building footprint 17’-4” x 65’-6” (1136 sq. ft.) will still exceed the 900 sq. ft. minimum dimensional standards required for this parcel in R-1 zone (Shagawa Lake Overlay).

The Ely City Council Board of Appeal & Equalization meeting was called to order by Mayor Novak at 5:00 p.m. on April 22, 2021 the meeting was held in the Council Chambers at Ely City Hall.

PRESENT: Council Members A.Forsman (7-1-2024), Debeltz (7-1-2021), Omerza, Campbell and Mayor Novak
ABSENT: Council Member Kess and Callen
Also present: Paul Cherry and Andrew Olson of the St. Louis County Assessor’s office via Zoom.

The meeting was scheduled as required by Minnesota State Law to review the proposed assessed values of properties within the City of Ely boundaries as established by the St. Louis County Assessor’s Office.
