The Board of Appeal and Equalization
for Ely, Mn

will meet on May 17th 2018, at 5:00pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 209 E Chapman St. The purpose of this meeting is to determine whether property in the jurisdiction has been properly valued and classified by the assessor. If you believe the value or classification of your property is incorrect, please contact your assessor’s office to discuss your concerns. If you disagree with the valuation or classification after discussing it with your assessor, you may appear before the local Board of Appeal and Equalization. The board will review your assessments and may make corrections as needed. Generally, you must appeal to the local board before appealing to the county Board of Appeal and Equalization.

Debeltz/Callen moved to approve Resolution 2018-015 Resolution Approving County Project within Municipal Corporate Limits. Roll Called: A.Forsman – yes, Kess – yes, Debeltz-yes, Omerza – yes, Callen – yes, and Mayor Novak - yes. Motion Carried 6-0-1 with D.Forsman Absent.

Regular Meeting Ely City Council – City Hall, Council Chambers

CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Novak Called the Meeting to order at 5:30pm. Mayor Novak mentioned that the City lost a dear friend on Saturday, Gordon Sheddy. Gordon served 8 years as a City Councilor, 10 years on the Ely Utilities Commission, 9 years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, 8 years on the Telecommunications Advisory Board, 8 years on the Fire Committee, 7 years on the Sanitation Committee, 6 years on the HRA Board, 4 years on the Buildings Assessment Group, 4 years as the Chamber of Commerce Council Representative, 3 years on the Police Commission, 2 years on Employee Relations Committee, 2 years as the Council Representative on the Lodging Tax Board, and 1 year on the Budget Committee. Gordon was also a veteran; Mayor Novak asked that the Pledge of Allegiance would be said in honor of Gordon tonight.

Call to Order: Mayor Novak called the meeting to order at 5:00pm.

Purpose:
Ely City Council will hold a public hearing regarding Ordinance No. 323, 2nd Series

VACATION OF A PORTION OF CITY-OWNED PROPERTY. The vacation of a public right-of-way described as that portion of Vermilion Street which lies North and West of Chandler Street and South of the platted alley in Block Eight (8), AUDITOR’S PLAT OF CHANDLER ADDITION TO ELY. See attached Exhibit A.

Langowski stated that he talked with 2 residents in the area and both did not have any concerns with the Vacation of Vermilion Street.

Mayor Novak adjourned the meeting at 5:03pm without objection.

Do you need a home
occupation permit?

If you operate a business out of your home, or use your home address as your business address you may be required to have a home occupation permit.
A home occupation permit allows people to use their residence for a business while preserving the residential character of the neighborhood.
Applications are available from City Hall (209 E Chapman St.) in the
Planning & Zoning office. Please call 226-5449 or e-mail pzadmin@ely.mn.us to inquire if a permit is needed.

The permit period runs May 1st annually.
Permit fee is $25.00 first year
and $15.00 subsequent years
