Included in this week’s Ely Echo is the second section of the Echo’s 30th Progress Edition.
“We had to add more pages this year so there are stories in the front section as well as the special section,” said Echo publisher Nick Wognum. “Our team really put together another great Progress Edition.”
Many area businesses, some new, some that have changed hands and many that have made significant changes during the past 12 months, are profiled via reports and/ or photographs in the special Progress sections.
“We were able to work with Grant Jones, a senior journalism student at UMD, who wrote a number of the stories this year,” said Wognum. “I met with him at the Minnesota Newspaper Association Convention in January and we were able to get him on board to help us with the Progress Edition.”
This year there are 20 stories on progress in the Ely area along with an Honor Roll of Ely businesses and advertising support from the business community.
“Our advertisers make the Progress Edition possible, that’s for sure. And our staff really steps up so I want to thank them as well, Tom Coombe, Lisa Poppenhagen, Cam Weisert and Ann Johnson, plus photos by Chris Ellerbroek, ad design by Shannon Pearse and Lisa Vidal along with Grant. It’s a team effort to make this happen,” said Wognum.
Since 1995, the Echo has released a Progress Edition. It included 16-page reports each of the first four years and expanded spreads of up to as many as 28 pages since then.
