The high school girls and boys golf teams took part in one of the area’s larger meets on Monday.
Northeast Range/Ely was fourth overall, and top among Class A teams, at the 10-team Mesabi East Invitational held at The Quarry.
The NRE boys did not field a full team but Ely linksters Jayden Zemke and Alex Merriman tied for 13th. In the girls event, no Class A team came close to NRE, and senior Danica Sundblad tied for seventh with an 18hole score of 103, 14 strokes behind winner Erin Hughes of Rock Ridge.
Maizy Sundblad was not far behind, recording a 106 to tie for 13th place.
In 19th was Carena De-Beltz (114), with Cylvia De-Beltz following at 142 in 39th place.
Rock Ridge won the overall team title.
In boys action, both Zemke and Merriman carded 91s over 18 holes on the course.
The field was dominated by Ethan Sullivan of Hibbing, who won with a 73.
• In boys varsity action at Two Harbors on May 1, Zemke finished 11th in a nine-hole competition, recording a 50. Merriman followed suit and had a matching score.
