Second-place relay highest finish at Mesabi East Invitational

Boys face strong opposition

Ely’s high school boys track team finished in the middle of the pack in successive meets this week.

The Timberwolves were seventh in a 13-team field at Hibbing’s Doc Savage Invitational on May 3, and they went to Aurora Tuesday and took sixth in the 12-team Mesabi East Invitational.

Closer to full strength Tuesday, after several athletes missed Saturday’s event for the high school prom, the Wolves managed a second- place relay unit.

It was made up of seniors Eli Olson and Milo McClelland, with junior Otto Devine and freshman Wyatt Devine. They combined for the runner-up spot in the four-by-800 (9:02.81).

The Wolves also had back-to-back third-place finishes in two distance events, with Wyatt Devine in the 800 (2:11.36) and Blake Houde in the 1,600 (5:00.14).
