Ely Empower will hold its annual garage sale fundraiser on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. until sold out at 144 E. White Street. All proceeds go to Ely senior girls scholarships. Furniture, camping and sporting goods, kitchen and housewares, linens, interior decor, crafts, puzzles and games, pet items, tools, jewelry, garden items, small electronics, and lots more. Bake table and free coffee.
Ely Memorial High School May music concert is Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. The Washington Elementary spring music program is Thursday, May 22 at 1:15 p.m.
At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. it’s Get Crafty: Puzzle Piece Wall – for adults. Join Tricia as she shows you how to recycle old jigsaw puzzles into art that you can display on your wall. Please register in advance. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota Area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. The theme for May 21 explores the hard-working history of the CCC or Civilian Conservation Corps. Established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, it employed unemployed young men to work on conservation projects, primarily in national and state parks and forests to address the unemployment crisis of the Great Depression while simultaneously improving the nation’s natural resources. This program is offered as a free, in-person, 30-minute or less presentation October through May, typically on the third Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant in Ely. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Boundary Waters Connect and the Ely Folk School.
