New home found for Green Mining Company

A new location has been found for a proposed cannabis manufacturing facility in Babbitt.

At the May 20 city council meeting, council member Jim Lassi said following a planning comission meeting, the project has a new home.

“We met with Chad (Davis) and Richard (Stuart) and we think we have found a spot where the Green Mining Company can start up their business. The land is south of the Golf Course and south of the Conservation Club Road,” said Lassi.

He said a public hearing will be held and the zoning will be changed to industrial.

“We want to expedite this as fast as we can, because if it gets approval, their window for getting things done is getting smaller and smaller,” said Lassi. “We’d have to do actual surveys. There’s still wetland delineations there, but this seems to be an ideal spot. It’s out of the way. It’s just tucked away in the middle of nowhere.”

Mayor Andrea Zupancich said the city could lease the land until a sale is completed.

Lassi asked if there was any objections on the council. Hearing none he added, “The company will do their own well and power and so on and so forth, but everything seems to be satisfactory in that area. So we could have a new business in Babbitt pretty soon.”
